Government Overreach

Government Overreach
At Roar Like a Mother, we’ve started our next module. We just finished talking about natural law and this week we’re discussing the proper role of government. It’s a fascinating study of the purpose of government. Why does government exist? What should citizens expect from their government? What should they be wary of? And what is the role of the citizen?
When the federal government oversteps its bounds and usurps the power that should lie with the individual, the family, the community, and the state… freedom diminishes.
For too long (across both parties) the federal government has acted like it must be our savior, that without it we are nothing. As power continues to centralize and expand from Washington D.C., We the People are in the losing seat.

The Predicament
We’re in this predicament because we hope that whoever we vote into the White House will solve all our problems. We expect the president and congress to cure all social ills, economic difficulties, and foreign conflicts. And we willingly give them the power of a king hoping that we can get back to normal and ignore the business of government.
But here’s the thing, that’s not the way a free society works. As free people, we not only have rights, we have responsibilities. We must be involved and understand the issues. You need to participate in decisions more than every 4 years.
Time for a Resurgence
It’s time for a resurgence of participation in our communities, school boards, and local governments. The experts try to keep us confused and distracted. But we are up for this challenge.
We are at a massive turning point in history. Now, do we abdicate all authority to the federal government? Or do we return it to its rightful place… self, family, community, state?

Hi! I'm Amy Earle
When I was a kid I was obsessed with government and history. I was sure I’d be a high school history teacher. Instead I chose to homeschool my own children. Soon after beginning, I was introduced to the principles of leadership education and the importance of teaching children how to think, instead of simply filling them with what to think. This led me on a journey that changed everything for me. We’ve gone the path less traveled and it has made all the difference.
