Chicken Exits

Chicken Exits
You might be wondering why this post is called Chicken Exits.. Well, Four years ago our family flew to New York at Thanksgiving to visit Jake (he was TDY) and we scheduled our very first trip to NYC on the day after Thanksgiving.
This coincided with my first Black Friday with Monat. I had no idea what to expect. In fact, I didn’t even consider it when I was making our family plans.
Then at midnight Monat launched a HUGE one day sale. The sale of all sales.
I spent most of that day walking through the Big Apple, Jake’s hand on my back guiding me, while I texted and talked to friends about their hair, the sale, and put in orders.
This day has become one of those legendary stories our family talks about.

All In
This picture of me? One of my favorites. That was the day that I truly understood that what I was doing was going to have a significant impact on our family. Similar to my post about Jake yesterday, that was my all in moment.
That was the moment I said, “I want everything this business has to offer and I’m willing to do what it takes.
There’s two ways you can run a business, especially a business that has little monetary investment like the one I do.
One approach is to hedge your bets.
First, You can “see what happens”.
Second, You can “try it out”.
Third, “give it a go”.
Fourth, “give it 6 months and then see how it’s going.”
Lastly, You can “see if anyone asks you about it”.
bThere’s nothing wrong with this approach… but it is usually rooted in fear of failing. If you don’t say you really want it, you won’t feel bad if you don’t get it. At least that’s what you tell yourself.
This approach typically results with less than you were hoping for. You don’t get to the top of a mountain on accident.
The other approach is to go all in. Feel the fear and do it anyway. Claim the prize… point to it and say, “That is going to be mine.” And then block the chicken exits.
What Is A Chicken Exit?
Do you know what a chicken exit is? You know when you are waiting in line for a roller coaster? Your heart is beating fast and you’re a little afraid and maybe nauseous? You get closer and can hear the screaming and feel the energy of what you are about to do?
At the very moment you are about to get on the ride, there’s also an exit. It’s an option to quit before you start. That’s the chicken exit.
When you “see what happens” you are leaving yourself the chicken exit. An out… just in case it gets too hard, too demanding
Because you’ll have the highest highs and the lowest lows. And, because you’ll have to make sacrifices. Because it is freaking hard.
But can I tell you something? It’s absolutely worth every moment, every sacrifice, every tear, every late night.
It’s worth it for the income, the freedom, the relationships, the adventures, the growth…
Oh it’s work. But it’s worth it.
If you are working towards a dream, block those chicken exits, let go of the excuses. You’ve got this!!

Hi! I'm Amy Earle
When I was a kid I was obsessed with government and history. I was sure I’d be a high school history teacher. Instead I chose to homeschool my own children. Soon after beginning, I was introduced to the principles of leadership education and the importance of teaching children how to think, instead of simply filling them with what to think. This led me on a journey that changed everything for me. We’ve gone the path less traveled and it has made all the difference.
